Frequently Asked Questions
Is sugaring all natural?
Yes, the ingredients are sugar, lemon and water
Is it painful?
If you have been shaving your whole life there will be more discomfort the first time. This is due to the fact that the bulb at the base of the hair shaft is enlarged. The more treatments you receive the weaker the roots get and the easier it is to remove the hair.
How long does the hair have to be?
The hair has to be at least ¼ of an inch (grain of rice) to see optimal results. A good rule of thumb is to wait 2-3 weeks after your last shave to come in.
Can I shave between treatments?
No. This negates everything the sugaring treatment provided. Please do not shave in between as this makes the hair grow back darker, stronger and more coarse feeling.
How do I avoid in-grown hairs?
Since we are removing the hair in the direction it grows, this allows for less breakage and in-grown hairs. Two days after your treatment make sure to use a body brush or exfoliating gloves to remove any dead skin build-up and continue to exfoliate until your next treatment. This will also help with hair removal at your next appointment.
Is there any chance of cross contamination?
There is zero cross contamination with sugaring. There is no stick used and no chance of “double dipping.”
Why is sugaring better than wax?
Waxing has many chemical ingredients while sugaring paste is made from 100% natural ingredients. Hot wax must be heated to a very high degree in order to become liquefied. This amount of heat can cause burning and scarring. Sugaring adheres to dead skin cells and is removed with the direction of hair growth diminishing chances of in- grown hairs.
How long does it last?
Generally, sugar hair removal lasts between 4-6 weeks depending on hair growth and on how often you are sugaring. This varies from person to person and the area being treated. For example: I would not wait any longer than 6 weeks to get a treatment. At that point your hair has really rooted and it’s like starting all over again. Bikini- every 3-4 weeks, legs/arms every 4 weeks, underarms every 2-3 weeks. This is just a guideline.
Is it safe for pregnant women?
Absolutely! The ingredients are all natural.
I have sensitive skin, will it cause me to break out?
No. It’s hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.
I have tattoos-is that okay?
Absolutely! Sugaring can actually help give life back to your tattoos by removing dry and dull skin cells.
If I use Acutane, Retin-A, or other retinoid creams is it safe to get sugared?
It is not recommended unless it has been at least 1 month since using a retinoid or 6 months since using Acutune. These medications thin the skin and can cause the skin to lift.
Should I reschedule if I’m on my period?
Menstruating does not affect the sugaring process. However, you may be a bit more sensitive to pain. There is no need to reschedule, simply use a tampon during your appointment ( and pop an Advil or 2 thirty minutes prior).
